The Transformation Bottleneck: Why Middle Managers Stall Change

Panel & Debate

Middle managers are not blocking transformation—they’re drowning in it. In maintenance and reliability environments, digital, operational and organisational change is too often layered onto already full roles, with managers expected to deliver today’s performance while designing tomorrow’s operating model.

The result is predictable: transformation slows through over-analysis, risk aversion and the gravitational pull of the day job.

This session explores why resistance is rarely a capability issue and more often a product of overload, fear and unclear value. Drawing on industry research and frontline experience, we’ll examine why middle managers become the critical bottleneck to change, what creates belief in transformation, and how organisations can reduce complexity, build trust and create the “burning bridge” needed to move from alignment to action.
