Measuring What Makes People Stay, Speak, and Thrive: A Personal Story and a Practical Framework

Perspective

In asset-intensive workplaces, we measure uptime, output, safety, cost, and risk — but often miss the human conditions that determine whether people speak up, contribute fully, and stay well.

Drawing on my journey with a childhood speech disorder and my experience as an Engineering Manager at Opal, this session reframes workforce wellbeing as a measurable leadership discipline. In this session I will share how silence, hesitation, and difference can be misread in workplaces, and go on to introduce a practical L.A.S.T.I.N.G. framework leaders can use to build dignity, psychological safety, inclusion, and stronger people metrics.

  1. How to identify hidden human signals behind silence, hesitation, disengagement, and performance.
  2. How to apply the L.A.S.T.I.N.G. framework to improve dignity, inclusion, and psychological safety.
  3. How to create practical people metrics that strengthen wellbeing, leadership, and operational performance.
